Sports is rarely a topic of conversation on this blog, but former Amsterdam Rugged Rams’ standout Josh Beekman has been released by the Chicago Bears.
Beekman was a one-time starter for the Bears. He fell under the axe because Chicago wanted to move forward with younger players.
Quick take: It’s pretty awesome that Amsterdam High School churned out an NFL-worthy player, a league where only the best of the best can make it. Unfortunately, Beekman wasn’t a part of the Bears’ future plans, but he’s only 27, and hopefully he’ll land with another team (host’s note: hopefully the Buffalo Bills!
).

As I mentioned to his father, the Bears are idiots. If you look at the highlight reels for the year he was a starter, he was extremely effective. Plus he has a work ethic better than the the entire NFL.
If he doesn’t land somewhere else, then the entire NFL is a bunch of idiots.
GO JOSH!!

Bummer! They have a nice write up on their website where they praise and wish him well. Everything happens for a reason and hopefully it’s a blessing in disguise. GOOD LUCK Josh!

I am sorry for him, and hope someoene else does pick him up but meantime while he was in college I do hope he earned a profession. So many young kids today think they are going to be football “STARS” and don’t need to attend to academics which is such a false notion….ESpecially this is true in Junior High where their ideals are exaggerated for they only see the surface and not the real life of these players who are sometimes dismissed and are so disillusioned they never recover…Not that the Beekman Boy will, for he came from a solid background and superior parents, but many do.
